Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has voiced strong opposition to the possibility of former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan receiving a Rajya Sabha nomination from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing concerns over the Adarsh housing scam. Thackeray emphasized that such a move would be disrespectful to martyred soldiers and their families, reported PTI.

According to the report, during a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city on Monday, Thackeray highlighted past statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had criticized Chavan for alleged corruption and disrespect towards soldiers' families. Thackeray questioned the prime minister's decision to consider Chavan for a Rajya Sabha seat, given his tainted record and the gravity of the Adarsh housing scam.
Referring to the Adarsh Building scandal, Thackeray underscored the need for accountability and justice, especially concerning matters that affect the integrity of soldiers and national security. Chavan, who resigned from the Congress and as an MLA amid speculation of joining the BJP, has faced allegations related to his involvement in the Adarsh housing society scam, which resulted in his resignation as chief minister in 2010.
The Adarsh housing society scam involved the construction of a 31-storey building in Mumbai on land owned by the Defence Ministry, allegedly without proper permissions and clearances. Chavan has been accused of criminal conspiracy and cheating in connection with the case, although he has denied any wrongdoing. The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court, the report added.
Thackeray also criticised the BJP for what he perceives as a lack of focus on important issues such as agriculture and investment. He urged the government to prioritize the implementation of recommendations made by late agriculture scientist M. S. Swaminathan, emphasizing the importance of supporting the agricultural sector.
Additionally, Thackeray accused the BJP of favouring Gujarat over other states in terms of attracting new investments, which he believes creates economic disparities and hampers national unity. He called for a more balanced approach to economic development that benefits all regions of the country.
