According to a disaster control room report by the BMC, the compound wall on an open plot and public road at INS Kunjali collapsed during water pipeline repair work at 2.48 pm on Sunday afternoon, near Miyan Chawl, close to Gazali Dargah, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Cuffe Parade. The incident resulted in the trapping of two people and four to five vehicles under debris.

Two individuals sustained injuries and were transported to INS Ashwini Hospital by passers-by in a private vehicle before the Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived. Mohammad Akbar was declared dead by the doctor upon arrival. On the other hand, Gangadhar Akla, who was injured, received treatment and has been discharged from the hospital.
