TPR increases slightly, but new Covid-19 cases dip

After recording the lowest test positivity rate (TPR) of the second wave on Saturday, the TPR increased slightly on Sunday at 0.66 per cent. However, Mumbai saw a significant dip in new cases, but the figure remained above 200. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 213 new cases and three deaths were reported on Sunday. 


On August 19 the city had recorded a TPR of 0.53 per cent. All the three deceased had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. The city witnessed zero deaths for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic on October 17. The doubling rate significantly improved and was 2,403 days on Sunday.



The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 281 people were discharged after full recovery. 


The state saw a marginal rise in new cases and COVID-19 fatalities as well. As per the state health department report, 845 cases were reported along with 17 deaths.

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 730 people were discharged after full recovery on Sunday. The state has 9,799 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in new cases. As per the state report, 358 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. 

After Mumbai, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR at 26. It was followed by Kalyan-Dombivili, which reported 24 cases and Thane Municipal Corporation, which reported 23 cases.

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered four deaths. Kalyan-Dombivili reported the four deaths, highest in the MMR.
