Thane top cop orders inquiry into Dombivli rape case

As survivor returns home from hospital with police protection, another rape reported in Chembur on Saturday morning

As major lapses in the investigation in the gangrape case by the Manpada police came to light, which revealed more instances of sexual assault on the survivor, Thane’s top cop has ordered an inquiry. The commissioner, Jai Jeet Singh, has asked officials to find out why the missing teenager’s case was not reported as “kidnapping” as per the law. Meanwhile, the survivor has been discharged from the hospital and given police protection as four  accused are still absconding.


mid-day had reported about the lapse, as the accused had blackmailed the survivor multiple times and taken her to Dombivli, where she was raped. Singh told mid-day, “I have ordered a detailed inquiry into this.”  



Teen is discharged


Meanwhile, the survivor who was undergoing treatment in Kalwa’s Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital was discharged on Friday night. “Her health is stable. We have provided her with protection,” said a police official. 

Another rape in Chembur

The Chembur police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman in a deserted lane on Saturday. The survivor was returning home with a friend. Accused Dheeraj Rajkumar Singh threatened them with a weapon, and the woman’s friend managed to flee. The woman rushed to Chembur police station and registered a complaint. The police lodged an FIR and the accused was caught within 12 hours.
