According to a police complaint filed by the woman and her husband, the couple was allegedly driven away by the hospital staff on Tuesday night following which she delivered on the streets in Kalwa area here. The police said a case of accidental death has been registered. Sharda and Gangaram Dodhe from Jalna had come down to Kalyan for labour work and had lost their belongings while travelling here.
They were apparently sent away by the hospital staff after first-aid because they did not have money for the medical expenses, the complaint said, adding, they were on their way to another hospital when the lady delivered the male child. When the couple rushed to the hospital the next morning, the doctors declared the child brought dead, police said, adding the couple have demanded action against the erring hospital staff.
Meanwhile, dismissing the allegations, the hospital staff on duty said the couple left against medical advice. However, the hospital's dean Dr. C Matira, who has ordered an enquiry into the episode, said, "If the couple had left against medical advice, then why was no entry made in hospital records?"
