The CBI mentioned that Mukerjea is given almonds and other dry fruits alongside nutritious meals at the jail canteen. Moreover, medical reports from JJ Hospital state that she is normal and medical aid is being provided to her in the jail as well. CBI added it would send Indrani to JJ for medical check ups as and when required. Most importantly, CBI stated that the nature of offences she is accused of committing were heinous. They added that Indrani is the main conspirator and is capable of influencing the case if granted bail.
The bail plea
In the 17-page application submitted by her lawyer Gunjan Mangla on February 5, Indrani sought bail on medical grounds. She claimed to suffer from frequent blackouts and be given bail so that she could recover and be fit to face her ongoing trial.
Commenting on the bail plea, Mangla said, “Given the deteriorating medical condition of Indrani, it is essential in the interest of justice that she be given bail for proper medical care for her recovery and congenial environment so that she will efficaciously prepare her defence and be fit to face the trial.”
The application states that Indrani is suffering from ‘chronic small vessels ischaemic changes’, and as a result of this, the supply of oxygen to her brain may get interrupted, resulting in a brain stroke.
