One of the city's renowned infectious disease expert and a member of the state Covid Task Force Dr. Om Shrivastav passed away on Tuesday morning. The medical fraternity mourned his death. Those who have worked with him praised and remember him for his humble nature. 


Dr. Om Shrivastav was working as a consultant in Jaslok and HN Reliance hospitals. Apart from the private hospitals, he also worked with civic-run Kasturba hospital. He was a specialist in treating infectious disease patients. 


On April 28, he suffered a massive heart attack at his residence which is next to Breach candy hospital. The family immediately took him to the hospital but due to the attack, the brain was deprived of oxygen leading to severe hypoxia and since then he was in a coma. 


On Tuesday around 10 am, the doctor declared that he passed away. Dr. Chandrakant Pawar Superintendent of Kasturba hospital said: "He was one of the good clinicians. During Covid, he helped and guided us a lot in terms of preparation and treatment. He used to train and guide doctors at the hospital. He was also a very soft-spoken and humble person. It is a great loss to the medical fraternity. Not only covid he has also handled patients in Kasturba hospital when swine flu has arrived." 

Another State Covid task force member Dr. Shashank Joshi said "Deeply saddened, to lose a close friend, a colleague, and a fellow researcher. He was a thinker, teacher and clinician. We all pray to the almighty that he attains moksha and we pray for his family to bear this immense loss."

One of the family members said, "soon they will decide about the final rites as they are waiting for relatives to come from abroad."
