At 1,794 new infections, Mumbai saw a drastic fall in daily figures after nearly two months; state records 37,236 cases and 549 deaths

Monday brought a ray of hope for Mumbai, as the number of daily cases dropped drastically to below 2,000, a first in nearly two months. According to the BMC’s data, officials in the city confirmed 1,794 new Covid-19 infections. However, there was a slight spike in fresh casualties.

Mumbai had last recorded fewer than 2,000 cases on March 14 (1,963). The doubling rate of cases in the city improved further to 163 days on Monday.
Of the 74 Covid-19 deceased, 51 patients had comorbidities, 44 were senior citizens and 27 were aged between 40 and 60 years. A total of 3,580 patients were discharged in the city on Monday after they recovered. The recovery rate in Mumbai currently stands at 91 per cent.
Daily Covid-19 tally in the state dropped, too, with officials recording 37,236 new cases on Monday. On Sunday, the state had reported 48,401 cases. The fresh Covid-19 fatalities, however, remained around 550.
58 deaths in MMR
Of the 549 deaths confirmed in Maharashtra on Monday, 58 were reported in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), excluding the fatalities in Mumbai. Of these 58 deaths, 14 were reported in Kalyan-Dombivli, seven in Thane, six in Raigad, and 10 each in Navi Mumbai and Panvel.
The MMR reported 4,883 new cases, a significant drop from 6,985 on Sunday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Besides Mumbai,
Raigad and Thane, with 580 and 430 cases, respectively, reported the maximum number of new cases in the MMR. Kalyan-Dombivli registered 369 new cases, Vasai-Virar 342 and Palghar 310.
The positivity rate in the state was 17.34 per cent, and recovery rate 86.97 per cent and case fatality rate 1.49 per cent as of Monday. The state has more than 5.9 lakh active cases.
