The 6.5 km-long tunnel, where the accident took place, is the longest on the Konkan Railway

In a close shave for passengers on Saturday, the speeding Delhi-Goa Rajdhani Express train derailed inside the longest tunnel on the Konkan Railway after hitting a boulder. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties. Traffic was restored at 10.27 am the same day. However, a number of trains had to be detained along the stretch due to the accident.

The 6.5 km-long Karbude tunnel is one of the longest railway tunnels in regular passenger use on Indian Railways and the longest one on the Konkan Railway.
A Konkan Railway official said the front wheel of loco of train number 02414 Hazrat Nizamuddin—Madgaon Junction Rajdhani Superfast Special derailed at 4.15 am in Karbude tunnel. The incident occurred at km 190/3 between Ukshi and Bhoke station in Ratnagiri region of Konkan Railway after a boulder fell.
A Rail Maintenance Vehicle (RMV) reached the site and later the Accident Relief Medical Van (ARMV) along with rerailing equipment left for the site from Ratnagiri for early restoration.
Konkan Railway officials also rushed to the site for an early clearance of the line. The Konkan Railway operates 756 km-long route between Roha near Mumbai and Thokur near Mangaluru. This route, which is spread across three states—Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka—is one of the challenging terrain, with many rivers, gorges and mountains.
