Several parts of Mumbai experienced showers late on Friday and early on Saturday morning providing respite from the heat to Mumbaikars.

The downpour led to delays in train services on all three lines - Central Main, Harbour line and Western line. Peak hour suburban services being affected inconvenienced thousands of Mumbaikars.

The Mumbai division of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) though said that the downpour was just pre-monsoon showers.
The southwest monsoon is expected to reach the city in a couple of days.

In 2015, the monsoon had reached Mumbai on June 12 and if the west-south westerly winds maintain their direction and speed then monsoon is expected to reach the city soon.

This year, the monsoon reached Kerala eight days later than usual. The rain usually reached the state by June 1. This is based on observation of the pattern in the past couple of years.
