BEST Undertaking, which was running 18 trips on the route, decided to stop the service since the response didn't meet their expectations. Officials said that only three passengers were being ferried in each trip.
Brihanmumbai Electric & Transport Supply (BEST) had started this service with the hope that people would use the public e mode of transportation instead of taxis.
"The response to these bus services has not been good and we will be suspending services from this weekend. It could be that people might not prefer waiting for the bus when its raining," said OP Gupta, General Manager, BEST.
BEST will now be talking with the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) authorities and will also try to get in touch with different airlines in order to pursuade them in promoting these BEST buses. They are hoping to relaunch the same service after Dusherra once the airlines give a positive response.
These bus services were running between 8.30 pm to 2.35 am in the morning to Western and Central suburbs as well as Navi Mumbai, with the minimum fare of Rs.55 and a maximum of Rs. 180. Three buses were deployed with one bus making 6 round trips.
