We are in the midst of the monsoon in Mumbai. And, while the steady stream of rain is a source of happiness, motorists continue having a tough time, as potholes have surfaced all over the place. These pictures tell a rocky story.

WEH: The traffic on the north-bound stretch of the Western Express Highway was thrown out of gear since Monday morning, thanks to the pothole-ridden stretch between Borivli and Malad. By around 6.30 pm on Monday, there was an around 3-km long traffic jam between Kandivli and the JVLR flyover on WEH. Pic/Nimesh Dave

Malad: Potholes have already started to hold up traffic and cause serious inconvenience to motorists crossing the busy junction of SV Road and Marve Road in Malad. This crucial junction serves traffic going towards Goregaon, Kandivli and towards the local railway station, but with large craters taking over the road, vehicles can get stuck for as long as 20 minutes here. Ghatkopar: In the east, LBS Marg is also pockmarked with large craters, causing problems for motorists and pedestrians alike. With puddles collecting inside the potholes, it gets even harder to gauge the depth of the cavity. Vehicles passing from Ghatkopar to Sion and back face a particularly bumpy ride at the Gangawadi junction. Pic/Sameer Markande

SV Road: Motorists were seen dodging potholes and even the police had a tough time managing the traffic with potholes marring SV Road at the Bandra-Mahim junction (seen above) and near Andheri station. Pic/Sayed Sameer Abedi

Samta Nagar: Despite BMC’s prohibition, PWD used paveblocks as a quick fix measure to fill potholes on WEH near Samta Nagar police station in Kandivli. This is the result. Pics/Prabhanjan Dhanu

Domestic airport: Gravel on the pothole-ridden road near the airport is forcing motorists, especially those on two-wheelers, to tread cautiously to avoid mishaps.

Jogeshwari: A portion of the recently repaired road crumbles near the Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackerey Trauma Care Municipal Hospital in Jogeshwari.
