The city witnessed a sharp decline in Covid-19 cases from over 11,000 daily cases to around 1,500 cases in a month and half. Now the number of Covid-19 infections has been steady in the city for the past few days. On Friday, Mumbai recorded 973 cases and 24 deaths. The state has a little over 14,000 cases, mostly from Pune and Kolhapur. It registered 289 deaths on Friday.

The city started recording a high number of cases in mid-February. The number rose sharply in March and reached the highest tally on April 4 at 11,131, after which there was a sharp decline and the cases came down to 1,500 around mid-May. As per the report of the BMC, 27,351 tests were conducted and 973 positive cases found with a test positivity rate of 3.5 per cent on Friday. The TPR went above 20 per cent in the first week of April.

At least 1,207 patients recovered and were discharged on Friday. There were 24 deaths out of which 14 patients had comorbidities,10 were above the age of 60 years, 12 were between 40 to 60 years of age and two were below 40 years of age. The recovery rate increased to 95 per cent and the doubling rate of the city is 515 days.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 2,839 cases on Friday. Thane recorded 129 cases, Navi Mumbai 89 and Kalyan-Dombivli 153 cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, witnessed 45 deaths out of which 34 were reported in Palghar and 4 were reported in Navi Mumbai.

The new cases in the state were 14,152 with Pune circle reporting 3,549 and Kolhapur circle 3,816. The number of cases and deaths have increased in Kolhapur over the past two weeks. There were 61 deaths registered in this region.
A total of 20,852 patients were discharged across Maharashtra, and the number of active cases stands at 2 lakh on Friday.
