BJP members protest outside Yashwant Jadhav’s office

As the civic elections fast approach, the rift between the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is widening. BJP members staged a sit-in protest in front of the office of the chairman of the standing committee on Friday, after they were allegedly not allowed to speak on certain subjects.

The proposal of development of a few junctions and footpaths on certain roads was tabled in the standing committee meeting for a discussion. The meeting was held online due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Most participants were sitting in their offices in the BMC headquarters. The BJP members rushed to the chairman’s office to agitate.

“When the proposal for beautification of roads and sidewalks came up for discussion, we tried to speak, but the chairman did not allow us to speak and the proposal was hastily approved,” said Prabhakar Shinde, group leader of the BJP.

Bhalachandra Shirsat, another member of the BJP added, “Even in earlier meetings, BJP members were not allowed to speak on proposals of tablets, masks, purchase for jumbo COVID centres, construction of oxygen plants, scrap sales, shelter scheme, penguin maintenance, nullah cleaning, Best Digital Ticket Tender, cleaning of Mithi, Poisar rivers, etc.

During the protest, members of the Shiv Sena came to the site and started shouting slogans in support of the chairman and against the central government.

Yashwant Jadhav, chairman of the committee, told the media, “I allowed everyone to speak on the subjects. I have a list of members who took part in the discussion in the past two months and  majority of BJP’s members were on the list.”
