No water supply for 24-hours in parts of north Mumbai on May 27, says BMC

There will be no water supply to some parts of P/North, R/South and R/Central wards for a 24-hour period from 10 pm on Monday, May 27 to 10 pm on May 28, the BMC said

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday announced a 24-hour water supply cut on starting at 10 am on May 27 due to the work of changing the main water line on Marve Road in the P/North ward of the civic body, an official statement said.


The civic body said, "There will be no water supply to some parts of P/North, R/South and R/Central wards for a 24-hour period from 10 pm on Monday, 27th May to 10 pm on Tuesday, 28th May 2024."


In a statement, the BMC said that the work of replacement of existing 900 mm dia water main along Marve Road, Malad (West) in P/North ward, is being undertaken by Hydraulic Engineer Department. The old and dilapidated water line will be replaced during the period of from 10 pm on Monday, 27th May 2024 to 10 pm on Tuesday, 28th May 2024. To carry out this work, isolation of the water mains for 24 hours is required. Consequently, there will be no water supply to some parts of P/North, R/South and R/Central wards from 10 PM on Monday, 27th May 2024 to 10 PM on Tuesday, 28th May 2024. The municipal administration urges residents in the affected areas to use water carefully and judiciously during this period.


The work of replacement of water main will eliminate water loss due to leakages, resulting in  improvement which will improve pressures in water main, thereby improving the overall water distribution in the vicinity of Malad.

The work will be undertaken in various phases, i.e. from Monday, 27th May 2024 10 pm to Tuesday, 28th May 2024 10 pm, the BMC said.

The following work will be carried out

* 900 x 900 mm dia cross connection and discarding of old 900 mm dia Water main at Shinde Garage, Marve Road, Malad.

* 900 x 900 mm dia cross connection and discarding of old 900 mm dia cross connection at Junction of Marve Road & Lagoon Road, Malad.

* 450 x 450 mm dia cross connection and discarding of old 450 mm dia cross connection at Junction of Marve Road & Ali Talav Road, Malad.

* 900 x 900 mm dia cross connection and discarding of old 900 mm dia Water main Near Blue Heaven Hotel, Marve Road, Malad, in P/North ward.

"A 24-hour isolation is scheduled to be taken up from 10 PM on Monday, 27th May to 10 pm on Tuesday, 28th May 2024. During this period there will be no water supply in some parts of P/North, R/South and R/Central Wards," the official statement said.

The following areas would be affected-

1) P/North- Ambojwadi - (Normal supply timing - 11:30 pm to 12:35 am) - No water supply on 27th May 2024

2) P/North- Azmi Nagar- (Normal supply timing - 12:00 am to 01:30 am ) - No water supply on 28th May 2024

3) P/North- Jankalyan Nagar - (Normal supply timing - 01:30 am to 03:00 am ) - No water supply on 28th May 2024

4) P/North- Malvani (Normal supply timing - 08:00 AM to 11:50 AM) - No water supply on 28th May 2024

5) P/North- Ali Talav Road, Inaswadi, Gavdevi Road, Rathodi Village, Malwani Village, Kharodi Village, Manori, Patelwadi, Shankarwadi, Marve Village, Madh Area, Manori Village (Normal supply timing - 04:20 PM to 10:00 PM) - No water supply on 28th May 2024

6) R/South- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sankul (Complex), New MHADA Layout (Normal supply timing - 01:30 am to 03:00 am) - No water supply on 28th May 2024

7) R/Central- Gorai Village, Borivali (Normal supply timing - 05:30 pm to 07:30 pm) - No water supply on 28th May 2024

"The municipal administration appeals to citizens to store sufficient water and use it judiciously. As a precautionary measure, citizens are requested to filter the water and use it after boiling for the next 4 to 5 days," the BMC said.
