New high-tech building for HBT Medical College to be inaugurated today

It is the first civic-run medical college building equipped with facilities like WiFi, digital class rooms and an e-library; the five-storey structure is built on Cooper Hospital campus

New high-tech building for HBT Medical College to be inaugurated today

The college is built on 36,397 square metres

The new building of the Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray (HBT) Medical College, the first BMC-run medical college in the western suburbs of Mumbai, has been completed and will be inaugurated today. It is the first civic-run medical college building equipped with facilities like WiFi, digital class rooms, e-library, research lab, and centralised AC.


The building has been constructed on the Cooper Hospital campus at Vile Parle. It is a ground plus 5-storey building along with the basement. From the ground to the fourth floor, it will house medical college-related services. The fifth floor will house the offices of all 13 department heads. It is built on 36,397 square metres.



The dean of Cooper Hospital and HBT Medical College, Dr Shailesh Mohite said, "The new building will be for MBBS and PG medical students. We have class rooms with access to Wi-Fi, a digital library, and a separate examination hall, specially designed as per University standards."


The building also has a central courtyard, four class rooms with a capacity of 240 seats, an examination hall with a capacity of 300 seats, a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 500 seats, a performance hall, a visitor's room, two libraries of 800 square meters, kitchens and dining rooms.
