A 36-year-old man was injured in attack after dispute at village meeting in Navi Mumbai.

A 36-year-old man was injured after a group of persons allegedly attacked him when he tried to intervene in a dispute at a village improvement committee meeting in Navi Mumbai, police said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the meeting was being chaired by the committee's panel in the Sonarigaon area of JNPT, Uran, an official said, reported PTI.
An altercation took place during a discussion between a man and several villagers participating in the committee election, he said, reported PTI.
When the man's brother Bharat Kadu, an employee at JNPT, intervened to resolve the dispute, some villagers attacked with iron rods and sticks and injured him, the official said, reported PTI.
After the man was injured in attack, an offence was registered on Monday against seven villagers under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Maharashtra Police Act, he said, reported PTI.
No arrests have been made in the case so far, the official said, reported PTI.
In another case, police have registered a case against a man for allegedly harassing a 29-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai and seeking sexual favours from her, an official said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The woman's husband took a loan of Rs 4.79 lakh from the 28-year-old accused in March 2021. Between July 2021 and December 2022, the couple repaid the loan amount, reported PTI.
Even as the loan amount was returned, the accused began to threaten the woman, her husband and son, the official from Rabale police station said, reported PTI.
The accused also went to the woman's residence in Ghansoli area where he allegedly abused her and demanded sexual favours from her, he said, reported PTI.
He also coerced the couple into paying him an additional sum of Rs 4,96,500, as per the victim's complaint, reported PTI.
After facing the harassment for about one year, the victim approached the police, reported PTI.
A case was registered on Monday against the accused under Indian Penal Code sections 386 (extortion), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 354 (A) (sexual harassment), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), the official said.
