A fire broke out at a textile manufacturing unit in an industrial area of Navi Mumbai in the wee hours of Saturday, an official from the fire brigade said, reported news agency PTI.


No one was injured in the blaze that erupted at a factory in the Pawna MIDC area around 1.30 am, the official from the fire station said, reported PTI.


Nine fire engines and water tankers of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and MIDC rushed to the spot and battled the blaze till around 8 am when it was brought under control, he said, reported PTI.


The cooling operations were underway, the official said, adding that the cause for the fire will be probed, reported PTI.

According to the district disaster management cell, the factory belonged to a company manufacturing textiles and further details were not immediately available, reported PTI.

In another incident, a fire destroyed a scrap godown in Maharashtra's Thane, a civic official said on Friday, reported PTI.

No one was injured in the fire that broke out around 9.30 pm at Shilphata on Thursday, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of Thane civic body, reported PTI.

Civic and fire officials rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in about one and a half hours, he said, reported PTI.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, he said, adding that the godown was ravaged in the accident, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, The death toll from a fire that engulfed a residential building in suburban Borivali earlier this week rose to three after a woman succumbed to burn injuries on Friday, civic officials said, reported PTI.

A municipal corporation official said 24-year-old Rajeshwari Bhartare died while undergoing treatment at civic-run Kasturba Hospital in Chinchpokali in the evening, taking the toll to three, reported PTI.

She had sustained 80 per cent burn injuries in the blaze that broke out on the first floor of the eight- storey residential building, 'Veena Santoor', on Monday (October 23), reported PTI.

Five people were injured in the fire and two of them, a 43-year-old woman, Glory Walphati, and a boy, Josu Gems Robert (8), were declared "brought dead ' when they were taken to civic-run Shatabdi Hospital on the day of the incident, reported PTI.

The civic official said a 42-year-old woman, Lakshmi Bura, who had sustained 47 per cent burn injuries, is undergoing treatment and her condition is "critical but stable", reported PTI.

He said another injured woman was discharged from hospital against medical advice, reported PTI.
