Mumbai’s daily Covid-19 cases drop below 10,000

The daily COVID-19 cases dropped below 10,000, with the test positivity rate (TPR) also showing a downward trend, on Sunday. The number of deaths remained constant at 11, showed the civic body’s data.


According to the BMC report, 7,895 new cases were added to the official on Sunday along with a TPR of 13.72 per cent. In the third wave, the highest TPR recorded in Mumbai was 29.9 per cent on January 6.


According to the report, nine of the 11 COVID-19 fatalities had comorbidities. One of the deceased was in the age group of 40-59 years and the rest of them were senior citizens.

The state witnessed a marginal dip in the number of cases and deaths on Sunday, with 41,327 and 29, respectively. The state’s case fatality rate continued to dip and was at 1.96 per cent. A total of 40,386 people were discharged during the day, leaving 2,65,346 active cases in the state on Sunday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 17,384 infections, a significant drop from the day before. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported 1,895 cases, Navi Mumbai 1,779, Panvel 1,626, Vasai-Virar 459 and Thane city 712. In addition to 11 fatalities in Mumbai, the MMR reported one more death, which was from Navi Mumbai. 

On Sunday, eight new Omicron cases were reported in the state and five of them were from Mumbai. So far, the state has recorded 1,738 Omicron cases and 932 of them have already been discharged.
