A woman and a male colleague have been charged for allegedly disposing of her newborn child's body in Bandra Creek in western Mumbai, according to a police official on Thursday.

A report in the news agency PTI quoted the official saying that the 34-year-old woman resided with several other women in the Worli Koliwada area in central Mumbai. She concealed her pregnancy by misleading everyone, claiming to have abdominal tumours.
Based on the First Information Report (FIR), she entered the bathroom at her residence around 9 pm on Monday and emerged after three hours with a bag, informing others that her supposed tumours had ruptured in her stomach.
She declined to seek medical attention, and the following day, at the recommendation of the male manager at her workplace, she disposed of the newborn's body in Bandra Creek, as detailed by the official.
A subsequent police investigation pinpointed the woman on Tuesday, resulting in her being charged under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to the concealment of a child's birth by secretly disposing of the body. The manager has also been implicated in the case, the official added.
In another case earlier this year, the Thane district police initiated an investigation after discovering the body of a newborn baby in the bushes according to an official who spoke to news agency PTI.
Concerned passersby had contacted the police after coming across the lifeless body of a male infant in the bushes situated opposite the Panchayat Samiti office along the road leading to the state-run Bai Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, as reported by the official to PTI.
The Mahatma Phule Chowk police registered a case under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to the concealment of a child's birth by secretly disposing of the body.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the badly decomposed body of a 29-year-old car driver, who had been missing for three days, was discovered in Maharashtra's Nashik district, as relayed by the police to PTI. Trimbakeshwar police were alerted by passersby regarding a body found with a rope tied around its neck in the Amboli ghat (mountain road) section, the official informed. The deceased was identified as Asif Jaffar Dacchi, a resident of Palghar. Family members revealed that Dacchi had set out for Nashik on August 12 with three passengers but never reached his intended destination, and his mobile phone remained switched off.
