Mumbai: Woman caught with Ratan Tata's number plate on her car

The BMW car found with the fake number plate

After receiving a complaint about a driver using a fake vehicle number plate at their Worli headquarters, the Mumbai traffic police launched a probe and found that the car had been using a number owned by industrialist Ratan Tata, for 'numerological' reasons.

The traffic police, in their probe, started scanning CCTV footage of places where the vehicle with the fake number had flouted traffic rules and the owner of the car was identified as M/s Narendra Forwarders Pvt Ltd, whose director was identified as Gitanjali Shah.

When asked about why she was using a fake number plate, Shah told police that she did it due to numerology. Shah's BMW car's number is 1110. She dropped the zero to make her number 111 to take advantage of numerology. This led to an e-challan being sent to Tata for violating traffic rules.

Shah has been booked under Section 420 (cheating) and 465 (punishment for forgery) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

"After receiving the complaint, the investigation found that fake number plates were being used, due to which a complaint was lodged at the Matunga police station," a traffic police officer said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Patil (Zone IV) told mid-day, "We will investigate further in this case filed by the traffic police."
