A house help who had stolen a gold chain and pendant from the house of her employer was caught in the most unusual way. The employer found that the woman’s sister had uploaded a photo of herself on her WhatsApp status wearing the same gold pendant. She immediately approached the Malad police, who have registered an FIR in the matter.

The complainant, Supriya Joshi, 59, lives with her husband and 30-year-old daughter in Malad West. The alleged accused, Sunita Piplode, 23, is from Dombivli and had been living and working at the Joshi house cleaning the house and washing utensils since April 2023.

A police officer stated, “Last month, Joshi’s daughter, Priyanka, asked her mother for her gold chain and pendant. Joshi informed her that the gold chain and pendant were kept in the drawer of the cupboard. However, when Priyanka checked, she could not find the chain and pendant. Joshi then asked Piplode if she had seen the items, to which she said she had not.”

“On February 1, Piplode left the job at the Joshi residence citing personal reasons. On February 21, while Joshi was checking WhatsApp, she spotted the status of Piplode’s sister, Lalita. In the photo, she was wearing the same gold pendant and chain,” the police officer explained. “We have registered the FIR against Piplode and are currently searching for her,” the police officer added.
