Prithvi Apartments on Altamount Road that is home to many businessmen and celebrities, including actor Suniel Shetty, has been sealed after six Covid-19 cases were found there. Sources in the BMC said nobody from the actor’s house has the disease. As per the norms, any building with five or more active cases is sealed by the civic corporation and treated as a micro-containment zone. There are currently 68 such structures across the city.

“There are six positive cases in A wing [of Prithvi Apartments] and as per protocol, the civic body seals buildings with more than five cases. The buildings will be opened after 14 days if the cases come down,” said Prashant Gaikwad, assistant commissioner of D ward that comprises Malabar Hill, Peddar Road, and Tardeo. The D ward has total nine sealed residential buildings. Gaikwad said there isn’t any confirmed case of the Delta variant and people need not panic.

K West ward, comprising Andheri West, Vile Parle West, and Santacruz West, has 27 sealed buildings — the most in Mumbai, followed by S ward (Bhandup) with 11 buildings and D ward. Of the 24 wards in Mumbai, there are no sealed buildings in 11 wards. There are another 1,998 buildings where one or more floors have been sealed after reporting less than 5 cases. K West ward tops this list as well with 306 buildings, followed by R South (Kandivali) with 268 buildings, and K East (Andheri East, Vile Parle East and Santacruz East) with 212 buildings. D ward has 158 buildings with sealed floors. In April, at the peak of the second wave, 777 buildings and one or more floors of 9,994 buildings were sealed.
