Around 76 per cent of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project (MTHL) project at Sewri has been completed and MMRDA is planning to finish the work by the end of September 2023.

Out of 6 interchanges of the MTHL project at Sewri, work on the C-2, ramp has been completed up to subbase and also work on the 4 km of spread up to the deck slab of the original bridge from the access road, has been completed.

Maharashtra environment and tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray who is also the guardian minister for Mumbai suburbs visited the MTHL project with the Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, SVR Srinivas. "The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project is in progress in three phases viz., Packages 1, 2 and 3. About 76% work is completed and MMRDA is planning to conclude the work by September 2023," stated MMRDA press release.

Since the work of 4 km spread of the C-2 access road and of the original bridge is completed, the contractor will be able to transport construction materials from the access road to the original bridgework which will speed up the construction of the project.

Earlier, temporary bridges and elevators were used for bridgework and inspection. This is a milestone as it is currently possible to drive on the main bridge of MTHL on the roads of Mumbai.

Metropolitan Commisioner SVR Srinivas said, "MTHL is accelerating basis the CatchUp Plan and team is charged up to complete it by late next year. Today for the first time vehicles could go directly onto it as Mumbai roads connect to MTHL from today."

Tweeting about the vist, Aaditya Thackeray said, "It is sheer magic to see such works happen and progress, each month. These projects will be Socio economic drivers for the nation. Our monthly review visits help ease out minor hurdles, to ensure speedy work."

MTHL, also known as the Sewri Nhava Sheva Harbour Link is under-construction of about 22 km long, the six-lane bridge with about 16.5 km long over the sea and about 5.5 km long viaduct on land on either side. The Link has interchanges at Sewri in Central Mumbai, Shivaji Nagar at Mumbai Bay and NH-4 B at Chirle, Navi Mumbai.

MTHL will feature approach sections, interchanges, intelligence transport system (ITS) and the other amenities required for a sea bridge. The traffic conditions on the stretch will be monitored and managed from the traffic control Centre with the help of CCTV cameras and related facilities installed on the stretch.

MTHL will connect South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai in a mere 20 minutes as compared to the current travel time of 120 minutes. MTHL has been identified as the important infrastructure to improve the connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and continue economic development in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
