The city will have the highest tide on Thursday with the sea level rising to 4.87 metre at 1.14 pm. The phenomenon will repeat at 1.56 pm on Friday.

High tides colliding with heavy rainfall result in flooding as the floodgates remain closed in order to restrict sea water from entering Mumbai. Hence, since the last decade, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been issuing high tide day alerts to caution citizens. This monsoon, the city will witness the highest tide levels from Thursday onwards. On Wednesday, the highest tide level was 4.76 metre at 12.30 pm, which is expected to go up to 4.87 metre on Thursday and be around the same level on Friday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, light to moderate rain, with chances of a few heavy spells at isolated places in the city, can be expected over the next five days but there is a very low chance of flooding in the city. However, the BMC has appealed to Mumbaikars to stay alert and not visit beaches.
