The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad will be experiencing moderate to heavy spells of rain during the next three to four hours. Meanwhile, it issued a red alert for the Sindhudurg district and an orange alert for Ratnagiri district on June 9. The regional IMD office in Mumbai said that the aforementioned areas will be seeing thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.

The forecast predicts that "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and moderate to heavy spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad during next 3-4 hours. Take precautions while moving out."
Meanwhile, numerous sections of Mumbai and Thane saw rainfall in the early hours of Sunday.
Meanwhile, as per an ANI report, previously, the IMD reported that the southwest monsoon has moved into portions of the central Arabian Sea, south Maharashtra, Telangana, south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
"Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some more parts of the central Arabian Sea, south Maharashtra, Telangana, and some parts of south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha, and some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh today, 8 June 2024," the IMD had said in a post on X.
Over the following 2-3 days, favourable conditions are forecast for the Southwest Monsoon to push deeper into the central Arabian Sea, affecting additional portions of Maharashtra (including Mumbai) and Telangana.
"Conditions are favourable for further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai) and Telangana during the next 2-3 days," according to the IMD.
Light to moderate rain has fallen in numerous sections of the country, alleviating the intense heatwave that had gripped many regions in recent days. Rainfall flooded sections of Guwahati, as well as Kullu and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Chennai, and Hubbali in Karnataka, reported ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting on Sunday to examine the continuing heatwave and plan for the monsoon season. This year's monsoon has arrived two days earlier than usual, with the typical date being June 1. This year, Kerala saw widespread pre-monsoon rains.
In 2023, rainfall across the country during the monsoon season (June-September) was 94 per cent of the long-term average.
