The Dindoshi session court, on Friday, granted bail to the South Indian film actress and model Kavya Thapar, who was arrested by the Juhu police for allegedly ramming into a car, abusing and slapping a woman constable in an inebriated state, on Thursday.

In her statement to police, constable Sadhna Gavde, 29, who was a part of the Nirbhaya squad of Juhu police, said that they had received a call from the control room about a woman driving an Innova, having crashed into a car, opposite JW Marriot hotel in Juhu. The car driver, who was injured, had called the control room after the woman abused him after the crash.

The constable further said that when they reached the spot, the actress who was in an inebriated state, abused them, grabbed her uniform collar and slapped her, when she tried to stop her.

Gavde, then, informed her seniors and other staff members, after which, they reached the spot and arrested the actress, said an officer from Juhu.

The accident

The actress had rammed into a car that was parked on the side of the road. After the car driver Nitin Mandal confronted the actress, she abused him. He then called the control room.

Thapar, who is a resident of Mulund, was heading towards Andheri at around 3 am when the accident took place. "The alcohol level was above the permissible level,'' said an officer from Juhu police station.

The police have registered the case against Thapar under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
