Mumbai sees zero Covid-19 deaths for second time

Mumbai saw zero Covid-19 deaths for the second time on Saturday since the pandemic broke out last year. The city witnessed zero deaths for the first time on October 17 this year. The city witnessed zero deaths for the first time on October 17 this year. 


However, there was a jump in daily cases as numbers went above 200 on Saturday with a marginal rise in the test positivity rate (TPR). According to the BMC, while the city’s TPR is at 0.57 per cent, 256 new cases were reported on Saturday. The city’s lowest TPR of the second wave was recorded on December 1 at 0.28 per cent.


The doubling rate continued to dip and was 2,592 days on Saturday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 221 people recovered and were discharged on Saturday. The state saw a significant rise in new cases and in Covid-19 fatalities. As per the state health department report, 807 cases were reported along with 20 deaths across the state.


The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 percent as 869 recovered and got discharged on Saturday. Currently, the state has 6,452 active cases.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)  saw a marginal dip in new cases. 

As per the state report, 395 cases were reported in the MMR region, including cases from Mumbai. Navi Mumbai reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR region with 36 new cases. It was followed by Thane Municipal Corporation, which reported 29 cases. While Kalyan-Dombivili saw 13 cases, Vasai-Virar reported 22 cases.  Raigad saw 15 cases and Panvel saw seven cases.
