Mumbai’s TPR rises to 1.35 per cent; Covid-19 cases, deaths dip

While Mumbai’s test positivity rate (TPR) saw a significant rise on Monday at 1.35 per cent, the number of fresh COVID-19 cases and fatalities dipped. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 347 new cases, marginally less than Sunday, were reported on Monday along with six deaths. All the six people who died of the infection had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. 
  
The doubling rate continued to improve for the second consecutive day and was 1,271 days on Monday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 188 people were discharged after full recovery. 


The state’s COVID-19 cases saw a significant drop on Monday as it fell below 3,000. As per the state health department report, 2,740 cases were reported across Maharashtra. The state also saw a significant dip in the number of deaths at 27. The state’s TPR marginally improved and was 11.59 per cent on Monday and the recovery rate was 97.05 per cent. 


The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 3,233 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 49,880 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed a significant dip in new cases on Monday. As per the state report, 663 cases were reported in the MMR, including those from Mumbai. 


Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivili saw 69 cases, followed by Thane Municipal Corporation, which registered 58 cases. Raigad registered 39 cases while Thane had 25 cases. Vasai-Virar saw 22 new cases and Mira-Bhayandar reported 24 cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered five COVID-19 fatalities on Monday. While Thane 
registered two deaths, highest in the MMR after Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Navi Mumbai and Raigad reported one death each.
