The number of new novel Coronavirus infections and deaths in both the city and the state were on the lower side on Monday, but that could be due to fewer tests conducted on Sunday. Mumbai reported only 348 of the 1,842 positive cases registered across Maharashtra.

The state’s death toll reached 50,815 after health department officials confirmed 30 more on Monday.

Throughout last week, the city was recording between 400 to 500 new cases daily with an average of 16,000 COVID-19 tests being conducted every day. However, on Sunday, only 11,091 tests were conducted in the city. The test positivity rate (TPR) on Monday was 3.1 per cent, against the 2.6 per cent on Saturday and Sunday.

The city recorded seven of the 30 fatalities. Of the seven deceased, six had comorbidities, two were aged between 40 and 60, and five were above the age of 60.

As of Monday, there are 6,159 active cases in the city after 508 patients were discharged following a full recovery. Mumbai’s recovery rate has stabilised at 94 per cent.

Of the 1,842 new COVID-19 cases, 668 were reported in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including Mumbai. Barring Mumbai, all other cities in the MMR reported fewer than 100 cases each. Pune circle registered 346 new cases and Nagpur 308.

Out of the 30 fatalities, 12 were reported in the MMR (including Mumbai) and six in Nagpur circle.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the state is nearly 20.11 lakh and the recovery rate has stabilised at 95.3 per cent.

A total of 3,080 patients recovered and were discharged across the state. There are about 44,000 active cases in the state.
