Mumbai: Renovation begins at KEM hospital's six dilapidated wards

A day after the visit of CM Eknath Shinde to the civic-run KEM hospital in Parel, BMC announced that the renovation work began in the six wards which are dilapidated.


The press release by the BMC stated that the complete renovation work of six wards of KEM Hospital has been started on a war footing. "Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the hospital on August 21, to inspect the hospital system and he directed the administration to start the work of the six wards as soon as possible."


Shinde inspected various departments in the hospital. He instructed the authority to start the renovation of six wards immediately and complete the works at the soonest.


"In these six wards works like construction, electrical, new furniture, and medical oxygen pipeline have been taken up. Among them, minor construction works have started on August 22," the BMc release stated.

The wards under renovation include - Ward No. 4, 4A, 6, 7, 11 and 12.

According to the BMC, each of the six wards has a capacity of 60 to 70 patients. "The renovation will enable an increased capacity to treat around 420 patients. As a result, more facilities can be made available to the patients," said Sudhakar Shinde, additional commissioner of BMC stated.
