Harbour line local train services between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai were hit on Friday afternoon as heavy rains caused waterlogging at Kurla.

The trains on the line were running late, the Central Railway said.

Dr Shivraj Manaspure, chief public relations officer of Central Railway, said the traffic on the DOWN (Navi Mumbai-bound) track was suspended for sometime due to waterlogging.

Suburban services on the main line between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Kasara and CSMT to Khopoli and trans-harbour line between Thane-Vashi/ Panvel and Belapur-Kharkopar lines were running normally, he said.

Meanwhile, the Western Railway (WR) Friday announced that there will be no day block on the suburban section of Western Railway on Sunday, July 23, 2023. However, a night block has been scheduled between Vasai Road and Virar stations to carry out maintenance work on tracks, signaling and overhead equipment.

The night block will be in effect from 00.30 hours to 04.00 hours during the intervening night of July 22/23, 2023. This Jumbo Block of three and a half hours will affect both up and down slow lines.

During the block period, all suburban trains on the slow lines will be operated on the fast lines between Vasai Road and Virar stations. As a result of the maintenance work, some suburban trains will remain cancelled during the block.

Passengers have been advised to check with concerned Station Masters for detailed information regarding the affected train services during the block period.

For travelers planning to use the Western Railway suburban section on Sunday, July 23, 2023, it's essential to note that there will be no daytime block, and train services are expected to operate as usual.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall, water-logging has been reported at Kurla station on the Harbour line on Friday afternoon.

According to a Central Railway update, on the down Harbour line from Wadala to Mankhurd section, the suburban traffic has been closed as safety precautionary measure from 2.45 pm.

Giving further update, the Central Railway said, "All other sections are running. UP HARBOUR and MAINLINE are running smoothly. DOWN HARBOUR from CSMT to Wadala/Goregaon, DOWN HARBOUR from MANKHURD to PANVEL line, Transharbour line and Kharkopar line are operational."

Despite heavy rains in Mumbai on Friday, railway authorities reported that trains on the Western, Central, and Harbour lines were running normally. However, commuters complained of slight delays in services, with trains running up to 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning stating that moderate to intense spells of rain were expected at isolated places in Mumbai over the next three to four hours.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) data revealed that the city recorded an average rainfall of 30 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8 am. Despite a warning of heavy to very heavy rains issued for Thursday, the actual rainfall was lower than anticipated.
