A 10-year-old boy and his father died after a wall of their house collapsed following the landslide, caused by the heavy rains in Kalwa on Tuesday midnight.


The deceased have been identified by the locals and the local disaster management officials as Birendra Jaswal (40) and his son Sunny (10) who were staying at the slum near the hills in Kalwa.

According to the officials, Jaswal’s house was caught in the landslide, resulting the wall collapse. The DMRC team along with the fire brigade, police and the civic officials undertook the reached the spot to rescue those stuck under the debris. After being pulled out along with 10 others, he and his son were immediately shifted to Chatrapathi Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa, where they were declared dead. Jaswal’s wife Neelam (35) was also injured in the mishap but is stable.

Following the mishap, around 70 residents from 20 families staying in this part of the locality were shifted to a nearby school at night for safety.
