The suspect, identified as Samir Sheikh, was taken into custody for the alleged possession of 125 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 27 lakhs, and for his suspected involvement in drug distribution activities, a report in PTI stated.
During a routine patrolling operation near Hathi Garden, law enforcement officials made the arrest after discovering the illicit substance in the possession of Sheikh. Interrogation of the suspect revealed a deeply concerning criminal history, with as many as 17 cases registered against him, including serious charges such as murder.

An official commented, "We are currently in the process of questioning Sheikh with the objective of identifying the intended recipient of the seized heroin consignment. Further arrests may be anticipated as we progress in our investigation."
In light of the apprehension and the substantial drug seizure, a case has been duly registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, underscoring the commitment of Mumbai's law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal drug trade in the region.
In another incident of crime news, the Thane police booked six persons for harassing a woman for dowry. According to a report in PTI, the Thane Police have registered a case against six individuals, including the husband and in-laws of a woman, following allegations of subjecting her to dowry harassment and demanding a substantial sum of Rs 2 crore.
Reportedly, the victim, a homemaker, asserts that her in-laws had subjected her to relentless torment and abuse, all in pursuit of the substantial dowry sum, since her marriage in January 2019. The victim further claims that her husband physically abused her, as detailed in the First Information Report (FIR).
It has been reported that the accused, including her sister-in-law and her spouse, purportedly insisted on financial contributions from the complainant, supposedly for the purchase of a house and investment in shares.
A legal case has been formally registered, invoking pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code, notably including Section 498-A, which pertains to "Cruelty by a husband or his relatives towards a married woman." As of now, no arrests have been carried out in connection with this matter.
