The Kurla GRP has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly molesting a commuter on the local train Thursday night. The man, identified as Mohanlal Sharma, works at Navi Mumbai and was produced at the CST court on Friday.
The complainant, who lives in Ghatkopar and runs a mobile phone store in Chembur, caught a train from Kurla around 9.30pm on Thursday. As the train left the station, he felt something poking him in his back. He turned and told Sharma to move back a little. "Initially, I didn't realise what was happening. I thought it was his mobile phone or something. But, after Vidyavihar station, I felt something being rubbed on my back," the complainant said. Irritated, I turned back to shout at the man, when I was shocked to see his trousers unzipped and his private part outside. I immediately raised an alarm."
Fellow commuters caught Sharma and handed him over to the railway police at Ghatkopar station. The accused told the police that it was someone else who had molested the complainant and he had been targeted unnecessarily.
Assistant Police Inspector Shailendra Chavhan of Kurla GRP said, "We have arrested Mohanlal Sharma and have charged him under sections of IPC 294 (Obscene act in Public) and section 110 (Indecent behavior in Public) of the Bombay Police Act. We have served notice to Mohanlal to remain present at CST court on Friday.”
