Most commuters heading to BKC have celebrated the Santacruz Chembur Link Road, but have simultaneously raged at the fact that the intervening distance between CST Road and MTNL junction is so blocked — due to the illegal scrap dealers there — that the time saved ultimately goes to waste. Well, rage no longer as the MMRDA has now decided to take on the task of giving a facelift to this arterial road at a price tag of Rs 30 crore.

A consultant will soon be appointed to prepare a detailed project report and the work on it will begin soon after.

Presently, motorists on the east-bound stretch of the road get stuck in traffic there during the morning and evening peak hours due to the scrap cars lined up on the side of the road, leaving lesser space for moving traffic.

Upgrade time
Speaking to mid-day, MMRDA joint project director Dilip Kawatkar said, "Motorists going towards SCLR from BKC get stuck in traffic as the road is not in a proper condition. So, we have decided to appoint a consultant for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report for the construction of road connecting BKC and SCLR."

It is estimated that the DPR will be ready in four months, setting off the implementation into motion.

Meanwhile, MMRDA also has plans to construct an elevated road between Kurla and Vakola to solve the traffic issue from the Western Express Highway.
