A 45-year-old police inspector, posted at Mumbra police station, died in a road accident near Nashik on Sunday evening. Inspector Pandurang Khandvi was returning to Mumbai from his hometown with his family when his car met with an accident, leaving him seriously injured. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Khandvi's last rites were performed on Monday at his village in Nashik. Khandvi, who was posted at Mumbra police station in November 2020, was given charge of the administration. According to police, Khandvi took leave on Sunday to attend an engagement ceremony at his village and had left with his wife and son for his hometown Rokadpada (Taluka Surgana). He started the return journey on Sunday evening.

"When his car reached near Waldevi river at Wadivarhe, approximately 70 kilometers away from his village, it collided with another car. Residents of the village pulled out Khandvi, who was in the driver's seat, his wife and 2 children, and two other relatives from the car. They were taken to District Hospital where doctors declared him dead," said an officer from Wadivarhe police station.

Speaking to mid-day, senior inspector from Mumbra police station, Madhukar Kad, said, "Khandvi was living at Mahim police colony and had joined Mumbra police station in November 2020. His mortal remains were taken back to his village where the last rites were performed."
