Mumbai Monsoon: 89 rain-related accidents recorded in Mumbai after first heavy showers

As Mumbai witnessed the season’s first heavy rainfall on Sunday, the BMC received 89 rain-related complaints from across the city. 


As per an official release, the civic body received 36 complaints of shock circuits with no casualties. 24 out of the 36 were from the mainland while the rest happened in the suburbs 


47 tree falling incidents were recorded in the city from June 9 to June 10. No persons were injured in the incidents, the BMC said.


A total of 6 incidents of partial building or house collapse happened on Sunday and Monday. Two incidents happened in the mainland while four occurred in the suburbs

Out of the six mentioned accidents, one occurred in Vikhroli that claimed the lives of two individuals. At least two persons, including a 10-year-old boy, were killed after a portion of the slab and parapet of a five-storey under-construction building collapsed in Mumbai's Vikhroli on Sunday night, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Monday. The incident took place at Kailas Business Park, near TATA power House, in Vikhroli West area at 11.10 pm on Sunday. Notably, heavy rains lashed parts of Mumbai on Sunday night.

When the fire brigade personnel reached the spot after receiving a call, they found some portion of the parapet and slab had fallen, while some parts of the under-construction building in Vikhroli were hanging precariously, said the civic body.

According to the civic body, the traffic movement was smooth throughout the city. 

The Colaba observatory recorded 52.6mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours with maximum temperature being 30 degree celsius while the minimum dropping to 23.5 degree celsius. 

Meanwhile, during the same duration, the Santacruz observatory recorded 68.8mm of rainfall with maximum temperature reaching upto 32.8 degree celsius and minimum being at 24.2 degree celsius.
