According to reports, the man had been to Tardeo police station on November 10 to lodge a complaint about his missing wife. The police registered the complaint and started searching for her.

On November 11, the police located the woman and called her to the police station for further questioning. When she went to the station in the evening to record her statement, her husband too reached the station. According to reports, the man then allegedly poured kerosene on his body before entering the police station premises and set himself on fire in front of his wife.

The police immediately took control of the fire and rushed the man to Nair Hospital. “When the man set himself on fire, the policeman on duty doused the fire. He is undergoing treatment at Nair Hospital,” DCP Paramjeet Singh Dahiya told mid-day.

Reports suggest that the couple who lived in a joint family often fought over trivial reasons. On Wednesday, after one such fight, the wife left the house. "The injured man used to work as a delivery boy in a company and lost his job," Dahiya told mid-day.
