The arrested accused has been identified as Aryan Sureshbhai Patel (36).

The incident came to light when the merchant received a call from his bank about clearing two cheques of Rs 6 lakh from his account. He rushed to the bank and stopped the payments.

Later when the merchant inquired with the bank it was revealed the cheque was deposited in Patel's account for the clearing bills of a hotel in Mira Road.

The merchant rushed to the police station and registered a complaint, said an officer.

We registered the case and began the investigation. Summon and called the hotel authority for the inquiry, and recorded his statement during he told us that the cheque was given to them by one of their customer Patel who has been staying at their hotel for several months, said an officer.

Since the accused was absconding we were searching for him and finally got the clue and arrested him from the Mira Road area a couple of days back. He was produced before the court and remanded in police custody.

During further investigation, it has been revealed Patel is a habitual criminal having many cases against him including cheating and two months back he was arrested by the Borivli police for snatching gold chains. Earlier, he was arrested for cheating cases by the Borivali police.
