Rains have subsided in the city on Thursday after a moderate spell from the beginning of the week. However, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rain activities could pick up pace from next week owing to the low-pressure area likely to form over Bay of Bengal.

A green alert has been issued till Sunday indicating low to moderate rainfall. However, IMD has issued a yellow alert on Monday for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad which means heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorms and lightening are very likely in isolated places.

Meanwhile, total water quantity in Mumbai’s lakes stands at 14.31 lakh million litres i.e 98.87 % of the required quantity of 14.47 lakh million litres.
On a related note, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday informed that the deep depression over the central Bay of Bengal has intensified and issued a cyclone alert for north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts.
In the meeting, the Director-General of IMD briefed that the cyclone is expected to cross the north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts by the evening of September 26, with wind speeds ranging from 75-85 km per hour, gusting to 95 km per hour, accompanied by heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of the states. It is likely to affect the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Ganjam and Gajapati in Odisha.
