A house collapse incident was reported at 08:25 hrs on Friday at Mehkar House, Shamaldas Junction, JSS Rd, next to Princess Street, Marine Lines. According to reports from VHF (Traffic Control), part of the wall of a vacated Mhada cess building, which was a G+3 structure, collapsed, resulting in injuries to three individuals.

The incident came to light when authorities received the first update at 09:25 hrs. The incident was initially reported by VHF (Traffic Control) who promptly alerted the concerned authorities.

As per the latest information received from Ward Control, the collapse occurred due to the falling of scaffolding that was erected for repair work. The scaffolding, along with the chhajja (eave), collapsed, causing damage to the building. To ensure public safety, the site has been barricaded by authorities.

Three people were injured in the collapse and were immediately rushed to G T Hospital for medical attention. Dr. Vijay, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at G T Hospital, provided the names and details of the injured: Arjun Khan, Male, 26 years old; Bapun Shaikh, Male, 20 years old. The injuries sustained by Bapun Shaikh were minor, and he is currently under treatment in the hospital's casualty department.

Incidents of house collapse in the city have frequently been reported and this has become a serious concern among citizens.

Earlier in June 2023, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) reported a house collapse incident in Ramabai Ambedkar Colony, near the Dr. Ambedkar Statue in Ghatkopar East. The collapsed structure was a ground-plus-one building, and a portion of the first floor collapsed onto a nearby room. Four individuals were injured and promptly taken to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. Dr. Manish, an Assistant Medical Officer (AMO) at Rajawadi Hospital, provided the following names of the injured: Mahadev Khilare - 50 years old, male; Sunita Khilare - 42 years old, female; Rohit Khilare - 23 years old, male; Vaibhav Khilare - 20 years old, male. All four individuals are in stable condition and are receiving treatment on an outpatient basis at the hospital.

In another incident, part of a building near Bhayander station collapsed after a heavy spell of rain earlier in the day. In the incident one person was killed and four others were left injured. The injured were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, an official said.
