Unseasonal rain, cold wave from north cause temperature to drop, IMD forecasts further dip in the next few days

Mumbaikars are experiencing the winter chill thanks to unseasonal rains and the cold wave from the north. On Sunday, the city recorded a temperature of 23.1 degrees Celsius, the lowest maximum temperature this decade. This was 8 degrees Celsius below normal. It is the second instance this month when the city recorded the lowest daytime temperature. IMD forecasts the morning temperature will dip further.

On Sunday morning, the Santacruz observatory of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, which was marginally higher than the earlier days. The temperature later rose only by 2 degrees. It is due to a combination of the cold wave from the north and unseasonal rainfall.
The city had recorded 25.1 degrees Celsius on January 10. The city had 4.5 ml rainfall at Santacruz on Saturday night which triggered the fall in maximum temperature. There was rainfall in the first week of January as well, which was followed by cool days.
As the maximum temperature reduces there are chances that the city will experience a chill even on Monday. The IMD forecast a partially cloudy sky even on Tuesday and a gradual fall in minimum temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius over Konkan-Goa in the next 3-4 days. It also predicted the possibility of occasional dust raising winds leading to reduction in visibility on Sunday.
