Mumbai's fresh Covid-19 cases rise above 500; TPR, too, increases

The fresh COVID-19 cases in the city once again rose to above 500 and even the test positivity rate (TPR) saw a slight increase on Friday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 532 new cases were reported on Friday. The city recorded a TPR of 1.33 per cent and eight deaths. Seven of the deceased had comorbidities. While four of the deceased were in the age group of 40-60 years, four were above 60 years of age.


The doubling rate also saw a significant dip and was 1,123 days on Friday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 287 people were discharged after full recovery on Friday. 



The state’s fresh COVID-19 cases saw a marginal dip on Friday. As per the state health department report, 2,620 cases were reported. However, COVID fatalities saw a rise as 59 deaths were reported across the state.


Maharashtra’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 2,943 were discharged after full recovery on Friday. The state has 33,011 active cases. 
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in new cases. As per the state report, 1,010 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivili reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR region at 92. It was followed by Thane Municipal Corporation with 71 cases. While Navi Mumbai saw 55 cases, Thane reported 37 cases and Panvel witnessed 60 cases. Raigad had 70 cases. 

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered seven deaths on Friday. Raigad saw three deaths and Panvel two. Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar reported one death each.
