A four-year-old boy was killed and six people were injured when a house collapsed in suburban Kandivali on Saturday afternoon, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. The incident took place at K D Compound in Lalji Pada area around 4 pm.

Drainage work was going on in the area and it could be the reason for the collapse of the ground-plus-one-storey house, the official said.

While Naushad Ali (4) died on the spot, other people namely, Hasina Shaikh (22), Shahidunnisa Rain (30), Prema Yadav (38). Mohd Ansar (16) and a three-month-old child Dilshad Shah, sustained injuries but are in stable condition.

Injured were admitted near hospitals, for treatment, the BMC official added.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the BMC’s R-south ward, Sandhya Nandekar said, "The ground plus one house was an illegal structure. Our contractor was carrying out road and drainage works during which the house collapsed.”

She adds, “We are going to blacklist the contractor and file a complaint against him with the police. As per the information received by us, the house had no base or foundation, and hence it collapsed. We have stopped the work for now, and nearby houses have been vacated."
