A four-day-old girl was found abandoned in the toilet of an express train on Wednesday.

The Borivli Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case against an unidentified woman for abandoning a child on the Khandesh Express.

According to GRP sources, the complainant, who is a resident of Vile Parle, was travelling with his family to Nandurbar. On Tuesday, he boarded the Khandesh Express and was to get off at Borivli station on Wednesday, when he found the abandoned child wrapped in some clothes, lying in the toilet.

The complainant informed the GRP officials, but by then the train had left from Borivli towards Bandra Terminus.

The Bandra GRP was then informed, who rescued the child and admitted her to the hospital.

GRP officials said the girl is healthy and does not have any ailment or injury marks.

“We will check if a woman got off the train and have also asked the railways to provide us with a list of  commuters on the Khandesh Express,” said Anil Kadam, senior police inspector of Borivli GRP.
