Mumbai first district to administer 1 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses: BMC

Mumbai, on Saturday, became the first district in the country to administer 1 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.


The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in a tweet, informed citizens about the milestone.




According to data on CoWIN portal, Mumbai has inoculated 1,00,63,497 beneficiaries . Out of these, 72,75,134 have received the first dose, while 27,88,363 have got both.

The vaccination drive in Mumbai district is being carried out at 507 sites. Out of these, 325 are government centres, while 182 are under private hospitals.

The CoWIN data further showed, in the last one month, the highest number of Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered on August 27 when 1,77,017 people were inoculated. This was followed by 1,63,775 doses on August 21 and 1,53,881 doses on August 23.

In its attempts to speed up full vaccination of citizens, the BMC has announced a special session for the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Saturday, September 4, at public centres run by the civic body and state-run hospitals. No one will be given the first dose at these centres on that day.

“Statistics indicate that the number of beneficiaries taking the second dose is less than the first dose. So the corporation has arranged the special session on Saturday only for the second dose,” said a BMC official.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 test positivity rate in the city went up again on Friday, however, the daily cases declined marginally. According to the latest report of the Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai registered 422 new cases, down from 441 the day before, and the TPR rose to 1.29 per cent.
