Two days after a woman committed suicide as her husband was critical due to Covid-19, he also died. Vasai residents Swati D'Silva, 35, and her husband Vivek, 38, had tested positive on July 17. His parents also tested positive and are at an isolation center. Swati had tested negative later and was discharged from hospital. On Thursday morning Vivek died during treatment at the hospital.


The Vasai police had found a suicide note in which Swati had written in Marathi, “I love you so much Vivek. I can't live without you. Your health is critical and I failed to save you from this disease. My entire family is in hospital due to Covid-19. I am ending my life because I can't live without you.”



On Tuesday morning Swati had received a call from the hospital and doctors had told her that Vivek was critical and they needed permission to keep him on ventilator. Police said Swati completed the formalities, but after coming home, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan. mid-day reported this on July 29. Family members of the D’Silva’s did the last rites after Vivek’s death. The Vasai police registered a case in the suicide of Swati and are investigating the matter.
