The 65-year-old businessman from Mahim was approached by a person through an email in October. The imposter claimed he was from a London-based company, Iconic Pharmaceutical and Manufacturing. The police said he claimed they were into the production of Covid-19 vaccines and looking for a partner who could supply raw material for the same. The person also assured 60 per cent commission on the business.
The senior citizen was convinced and paid Rs 12.84 lakh on October 7 in different accounts to the person in the email as per the instructions. But later he realised he was conned. He went to Mahim police station where his complaint was registered with the Central Region Cyber Police Station on October 27. Senior Inspector Sanjay Govilkar formed a team under Inspector Rahul Khataokar and Sub-Inspector Nilesh Hembade for the investigation.
“The cyber cops found the fraudsters stayed in Navi Mumbai. With the help of Navi Mumbai police, Muzzamil Nisar Pawaskar, 26, and Patrick Eneugwe Chukulube, 34, were nabbed. Nine mobile phones, two SIM cards and one fake passport were seized from them,” said PSI Hembade.
