Mumbai crime: Thief caught with pistol, live cartridges

The Crime Branch’s Unit 11 has apprehended petty criminal Mohammad Wahid Ismail Sheikh, 31, while he was in possession of a pistol and three live cartridges.

They have alleged that he was planning a robbery. According to the police, the accused resides in Versova and is a habitual offender, with several cases of theft and robbery registered at Versova, Oshiwara and Mulund police stations.


According to police sources, the accused has been arrested under a section of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act by the Mulund police. When he purchased the weapon, it was brought to the notice of crime branch officer PSI Nitin Vichare.

Senior police inspector Chimaji Adhav, Vichare laid a trap at Pramila Nagar Bridge in Dahisar East, and arrested him. The police is now looking for the supplier of the weapon. The accused was produced in Killa Court yesterday, where he was sent to jail custody.
